Ackley Bridge

By Matthew Gormley @MatthewPGormley

Channel 4’s new school-based family drama explores the rifts and ructions that are created when two local, but very different schools, merge to form a new college. Diversity is the modus operandi of Ackley Bridge, but as a predominantly white community merges with another that is 99% Asian, the transition is going to be anything but smooth.

Phillip Schofield

By Matthew Gormley @MatthewPGormley

It’s The British Soap Awards 2017, the biggest and brashest night in the soap calendar, when the nation’s favourite stars of the small screen join together for a glorious celebration of the last twelve months in soap land. This year’s star-studded event took place on Saturday night at Manchester’s Lowry Theatre. The casts of Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Doctors were all invited to the bash at Salford Quays. As it was on home turf, there was no way I could pass the opportunity to attend the prestigious ceremony.

Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus sang a duet

By Andy Simon @AndySimon55

It's been a long time since I watched a music concert.

In fact; I cannot remember the last one I went to. However I did make sure I watched the One Love Benefit Concert on Sunday if nothing else, to just stand with those music loving Mancunians as they displayed their open defiance against evil.

And what a night it was.

Broadcast to over 50 countries worldwide, the One Love Manchester Benefit Concert, held at Old Trafford, will most likely go down in TV history as one of the most focused upon event since Live Aid in 1985.

Winner Tokio Myers with Ant & Dec

By Andy Simon @AndySimon55

I really wanted to be cutting, I was looking forward to slate, to moan, groan, yawn, whine, and pour total scorn all over Saturday night's final of Britain's Got Talent. After all; it's traditional.

But I couldn't.

For once BGT has had quite a good crop this year. It just goes to show that even a talentless, talent starved so called talent show, can get it right.

There's an old saying, "Even a complete fool can be right, by chance." I guess this was BGT's moment?

Theresa May

Tonight – the Leader Interviews: Theresa May  (ITV, 7.30pm) Another chance to endure the Prime Minister wheeling out her favourite meaningless clichés. Strong, stable, coalition of chaos, the only poll that matters is on June 8th… and all the other empty claptrap we’re sick of hearing. Faced with the impossible task of making Mrs Robot remotely interesting, interviewer Julie Etchingham does her best.

Big Brother

What to watch and review on Monday. Tonight’s TV tips

Coronation Street (ITV, 7.30 & 8.30pm) The calamitous Platt family play the three-generation game as granny Gail and mummy Sarah try to persuade dim daughter Bethany that, all things considered, nasty Nathan the pimp isn’t the world’s greatest fiancé. On balance, Bethany thinks he is.

Bethany and Nathan

Those blockbuster Corrie specials. The non-story so far. Nick didn’t drown. Ken didn’t get killed. Daniel didn’t get punished. And Weatherfield’s weirdos didn’t get the memo about when to hold a party.

Straight after 90 long minutes of Britain’s Got Talent (make it stop!), the Street came at us at 9pm every night with action-packed half hour episodes designed to keep millions of enthralled fans glued to the screen. Did it work? You decide.
