America's Hate Preachers

By Llwynog45

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

Sounds good doesn’t it, the American first amendment. Free speech, got to be a good thing right? The Bible sound’s quite good too doesn’t it, peaceful guy with a beard helping out the poor and disabled. And how about the Koran? Peaceful books right, spreading love and peace. Problem is, some people twist them and distort them to suit their own beliefs and needs. Like Billy Connolly once said, “Never trust anyone who was brought up reading just one book”.

Steven Anderson is the pastor at Faithful Word Baptist Church, Arizona. When asked by brave young British reporter Hannah Livingston what homosexuals should do, here’s his reply.

“Kill themselves as far as I’m concerned. They’re wicked horrible people that keep molesting and destroying people; so, I don’t have advice for homosexuals, except put a bullet in you own head so you don’t molest my kids or anyone else’s kids”. Nice guy huh, a peaceful fun loving guy, who happens to have nine children and a wife, chained to the sink, and she home schools all nine kids, whilst hubby Steve preaches his hate to the converted.

This is a 60-minute documentary, focusing on two American Hate Preachers, the lovely Steven Anderson, quoted above, and the even lovelier Ruben Israel. I particularly enjoyed Rubens’s intro on his imaginatively titled website ‘Offical street preacher.com’. Not only does he speak crap, he also created a crap looking website.

“My name is Ruben Israel, I was not assembled as speculated from body parts of dead Christian martyrs, pieced together in some deep catacomb somewhere by monks and brought to life during some healing service. I am Hispanic, with real parents, born and raised in Los Angeles. “ Cool huh!

Rubens spends his days on Hollywood Boulevard with a megaphone, shouting gems such as “You may have a Muslim walking around here today that may bomb for Allah, and take you out”. A Muslim couple that passed by tried to argue with him. You may as well argue with a brick wall. “This is America”, Rubens keeps shouting. Yeah right, that country responsible from more deaths, more bombings, more murders in recent times than any other nation. Here’s a fact for you Rubens.

“The overall conclusion reached is that the United States most likely has been responsible since WWII for the deaths of between 20 and 30 million people in wars and conflicts scattered over the world.” Global Research, March 07, 2016

We follow Rubens and his troupe of losers (all white and middle aged men) to a gay pride event, where they spend the day, shouting abuse and hate at the LGBT community. It’s all so constructive this Hate Preaching isn’t it? Get yourself a placard and just shout abuse at people. You don’t have to have any solutions to anything, you don’t have to do good for anyone, just spread hate, it’s easy. And by the looks of it, it pays pretty well too.

This is a good and brave documentary, that brings up some of the burning issues of the day. Since Brexit, here in the UK, there’s been a dramatic increase of hate crimes, issues that were sealed tightly inside a pressure cooker, but now are unleashed with a loud hiss. Suddenly it seems OK to vent anger towards those that don’t agree with you, or live a different lifestyle to you. Of course, freedom of speech is important, but the problem is, those that take advantage most of ‘The First Amendment’ in America are those that have the vilest of views.
