As an admirer of the novel I was tentatively looking forward to the BBC production. Although it was passable the inclusion of Eva Longoria looking like Joan Collins and the splendid stately home that was supposed to be the school set off my alarm bells.

This is not a terrible production but apart from David Suchet, who is fabulous, and the daughters who both succeed, the rest of the cast just fail to hit the right tone and therefore are unfortunately not funny.

Jack Whitehall is not a good enough actor and although he dresses the part well, is just wrong. I'm sure the Downton Abbey fans will love it, and the Americans. Sadly I might just stop watching.
