It's that little time of blissful self indulgence that recharges your batteries and helps you to face the new week with a grin.

The Durrells

By Andy Simon @AndySimon55

Sunday night escapism even for just an hour can be a welcome relief. A little while to yourself to forget the things ahead be it the job, the mortgage, the bills, the food trip to Tesco's, the kids, your partner, or the fear of facing a whole week of Britain's Got Talent: The Live Shows on the telly, or whatever else burdens you.

It's that little time of blissful self indulgence that recharges your batteries and helps you to face the new week with a grin.

And for me, The Durrells was one of those things which helped me do just that.

As we know, the second series has just finished, and what a great last episode it was! It was filled with its usual charm, great acting, super storyline, lovely characters, the very people some wish were their next door neighbours.

The animals weren't bad either. The Durrells has been pure joy and delightful escapism throughout.

I'm a little sad it's over.

The Durrells brought bucketfulls of nonsense to our screens over the last few Sundays and will be greatly missed. And Sunday's last episode will make that 'miss you' feeling, feel even greater.

In the final episode of series 2 there was lots happening.

We saw Louisa (Keeley Hawes) thinking hard about returning to England with Hugh (Daniel Lapain) before he unfortunately gets stabbed right in front of Louisa by his ex lover Vasilia (Errika Bigiou) in his olive orchard.

Leslie (Callum Woodhouse) delivers Lugaretzia’s (Anna Savva) daughter's, Leonora (Anna Antoniades) baby, and Louisa also delivers Florence's (Lucy Black) baby.

Larry (Josh O’Connor) just keeps on writing.

Meanwhile Gerry (Milo Parker) watches his otter give birth, Margo (Daisy Waterstone) who still remains boy crazy, dumps poor love-sick Donald (Ben Hall) and instead makes a play for Zoltan (Merch Husey) who regards himself as completely magnificent.

But in the eyes of Margo's family, Zoltan is totally unsuitable.

I won't say any more because If you who are reading this and have not yet seen the final episode of this second series, I might just spoil it for you.

And that's the last thing I want.

Suffice to say; The Durrells didn't disappoint in any way. I'm going to miss this show. Sundays just won't be the same without them.

Thankfully though; as the end credits appeared on the screen, a sweet little voice who's owner I will be forever grateful to announced that The Durrells would be returning for a third series in 2018! Well, Gerry's book of Corfu is afterall, a trilogy.

You see? Already; the future looks bright.

The Durrells is without doubt brilliant telly. It is pure and simply very enjoyable Sunday night escapism from beginning to end. So until the next series begins, there's always Gerry's book, The Corfu Trilogy. Trust me; that book is well worth reading.

And something tells me this new series in 2018 won't be the last tale of Gerald Durrell's family and other animals we will see.

The last episode of The Durrells, series two, is available to watch on the ITV Hub

Thanks for reading.
