Top TV tips for the Easter weekend: BGT, Maigret and Broadchurch
What to watch and review on April 15, 16 and 17.
SATURDAY
Take Me Out (ITV, 7pm) The stylish dating show returns for yet another series as host Paddy McGuinness offers three likely lads 30 ladies to choose from before embarking on a nightmare trip to Fernando’s Island aka Tenerife.
Doctor Who (BBC1, 7.20pm) As Peter Capaldi returns for his final series at the helm of the Tardis we meet his new sidekick Bill (Pearl Mackie). Predictably, Bill’s a lesbian. But when she falls for a pretty student with stars in her eyes she’s plunged into an intergalactic time travelling catastrophe. Can the Doc save the universe yet again?
Britain’s Got Talent (ITV, 8pm) It’s back. Series 11 (count ‘em) launches with a fun-filled spectacular featuring the obligatory unfunny child comedian and the standard issue overrated teenage singer. But there’s also an extraordinary choir made up of people whose loved ones have gone missing and some hilarious urinating dogs. With judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Aleysha Dixon and David Walliams spewing the same old clichés, we’ve seen it all before. But if you like this end-of-the-pier tosh it’s definitely a blockbuster episode.
EASTER SUNDAY
Maigret’s Night At The Crossroads (ITV, 8pm) Rowan Atkinson returns as the inscrutable French detective takes on the strange case of a Jewish diamond dealer who was murdered in the dead of night.
Line Of Duty (BBC1, 9pm) The plot thickens as dodgy cop Roz’s husband Nick faces tough questions from AC-12 after the attack on Steve. But while he denies he had anything to do with the brutal assault, his suspicions about his wife reach crisis point.
EASTER MONDAY
Broadchurch (ITV, 9pm) This is it. Tonight, we finally found out who raped Trish Winterman. Just about everyone is still in the frame although the taxi driver seems to be in pole position. After a great series, there’s a lot for ace detectives Hardy and Ellis to get through in the finale. Must-see TV.

Big Little Lies (Sky Atlantic, 9pm) The penultimate instalment of an excellent drama about the deep unhappiness of the ultra-rich in the exclusive Californian coastal town of Monterey. With an all star cast including Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern.

The Nightly Show (ITV, 10pm) Clearly a glutton for punishment, Dermot O’Leary takes on his second stint hosting the disastrous flop that pulls in even fewer viewers than News At Ten used to. Since this is the end of the two month run, the question is what happens next week? For what it’s worth, tonight’s guests are comedians Lee Mack and Reginald D Hunter.
