Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief

SATURDAY

Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief (BBC1, 6.45pm) Here’s a better idea… let’s not. Brought back after four years, this new updated version is nowhere near as popular as the old one. Mel & Sue host while various C-listers generously give their time for charidee. Tonight’s massive names include Gogglebox Steph and Dom, This Morning stalwart Alison Hammond and superstar Ann-Marie. Terrible telly but it’s all in a good cause.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (ITV, 7.30pm) Energetic fun as the dynamic duo go head to head with notorious gigglers Phil Schofield and Holly Willoughby in the “Make ‘em laugh” slot and queen of the jungle Scarlett Moffatt teams up with little Ant and Dec, who must be pushing 40 by now.

The Voice UK (ITV, 8.30pm) It’s the singing contest no one is talking about. Thrill to the quarter final as the remaining 12 are whittled down to eight. And savour the electric wit of the four judges of the apocalypse Jennifer Hudson, Tom Jones, Will.i.am and the one and only Gavin Rossdale. Who will win? Who cares?

SUNDAY

Vera (ITV, 8pm) Return of TV’s female Columbo as DCI Vera Stanhope investigates a mysterious murder on a bird sanctuary island off the coast of Northumberland. Stunning moody scenery, a well-crafted whodunit and a fine performance from the great Brenda Blethyn. What’s not to like?

Top Gear (BBC2, 8pm) One doesn’t like to intrude on private grief but this simpering series is only marginally better than when the horrendous Chris Evans was at the wheel. In other words, it's still terrible. Block of wood Matt LeBlanc’s heavily scripted spontaneous “jokes” are painful and the other two forgettable hosts are trying way too hard. Let’s face it, without Clarkson & Co it's crap.

SS-GB (BBC1, 9pm) Last episode of the disappointing drama imagining a defeated Britain under Nazi German rule. Never as intriguing as it should have been. But it’s fun playing the “guess what they’re saying” game. As Scotland Yard cop Douglas Archer, hoarse whisperer Sam Riley is particularly inaudible. In tonight’s finale, Archer attempt to smuggle the King out of London. No one know why.
