Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins in The Great British Bake Off

The Great British Bake Off (BBC1, 8pm) Here we go. Baking in a tent. Wow. Even better, Mel and Sue’s saucy but cosy double-entendres. Hilarious. Judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood preside as another 12 hopefuls compete in a contest that for some reason grips the nation. This is Britain’s most popular programme. No one knows why. Fasten your seatbelts… it’s Cake Week. Crumbs.

The Chronicles Of Nadiya (BBC1, 9pm) This is what happens when you triumph on the Bake Off. You get your own show. Last year’s winner Nadiya Hussain takes a food inspired journey to her roots in Bangladesh. Almost as exciting as the Bake Off itself.

First Dates (Channel 4, 10pm) More romance in TV’s restaurant of love as chirpy Cockney Terry and hairdresser Levana enjoy an unforgettably funny evening. And maître d Fred delivers his pearls of wisdom with a French accent. Ooh la la.
