Ripper Street

Ripper Street (BBC2, 9pm) Series four of the Victorian crime drama that was axed by the BBC and then saved by Amazon, on which it has become a big international hit. In the first episode newly promoted Inspector Drake (Jerome Flynn) is dealing with racist hate crimes a century before the hate crime laws came into existence. Go figure. Meanwhile, Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) is bored with his seaside retirement. Will he be tempted back to Whitechapel to save an innocent man from the gallows?

Stranger Things

SATURDAY

Spotless (ITV, 7pm) New game show in which couples play fiendish wet paint-based games in bright white rooms and try to emerge spotlessly clean. High definition cameras are on hand to record exactly how pristine the contestants really are. Sounds rather intellectually taxing. Another highbrow winner from the ITV brains trust.

CBB: Samantha Fox and Ricky Norwood

Coronation Street (7.30 and 8.30pm) Neglecting to mention he’s already having one with Leanne, fertile Steve tells Michelle he doesn’t want a baby. Which is bad news… because Michelle is pregnant. Although Steve has yet to find out. Meanwhile, former prostitute Leanne is moving to Liverpool. Good.

Lewis Bore agressively throws a drink over Heavy D

Ask any copper or lawyer. When Lewis Bore aggressively threw that drink into Heavy D’s face from close range it was common assault. In other words, a crime.

I’m not saying for a second he deserves to be prosecuted. It was the heat of the moment. In the pressure-cooker goldfish bowl of the Celebrity Big Brother house Essex Boy lost his temper. We all make mistakes.

But after his blatant act of violence why was Lewis only warned? And why, when he hadn’t come close to breaking the law, was Christopher Biggins unceremoniously kicked out?

After a rather great home performance, No one expected Team GB to do well in this oversee games. Until the middle of the first week. All of a sudden the medals start flying in for Team GB in a wide range of sports.

CBB: Stephen Bear

Celebrity Big Brother Live Eviction (Channel 5, 9pm) Who will stay and who will go? Would love to see the dreadful Lewis Bore get his marching orders. Apart from Essex Boy, unheard of American Renee Graziano, unknown Brit Heavy D and the legendary Stephen Bear are all nominated. What do you think of the series so far?
