Chris Evans Top Gear

SATURDAY

Love Island (ITV2, 9pm) So they base a whole raunchy reality show on irritating twonks getting together and shagging on telly… and when they do the deed, loads of people complain. Eh? But this tawdry tosh does what it says on the tin. Which is probably why record audiences are tuning in to savour the unsavoury fun. And Aunty Caroline Flack’s the host. Yay. Our cups runneth under…

Celebrity MasterChef: So long Sinitta - gone but already forgotten

Sinitta served up uncooked meat

Whenever grizzled veteran Sinitta pitches up on a reality show it seems like she’s been on it before. She’s done so many! I’m A Celeb, Dancing On Ice, Hit Me Baby One More Time, Cirque de Celebrite, Get Your Act Together… the list goes on.

Say what you like about trash telly’s top warhorse, but she’s made one hit song (So Macho) and being a friend of Simon Cowell go a remarkably long way. From tiny acorns a mighty small career did grow…

Pam Coker and Aunt Babe in EastEnders

Pam Coker and Aunt Babe in EastEnders

EastEnders (BBC1, 8pm) Long after she committed suicide, they’re finally starting to think about poor Peggy’s funeral. What’s the rush? But these things are expensive, as surly Shirley points out to undertaker’s wife and florist Pam Coker. It’s an ill wind and all that…

Sarah and Todd

Coronation Street (ITV, 10pm) Amid all the football and EU mania an hour-long episode of the soap that time forgot. Despite the fact she was there when Kylie killed him, stupid Sarah is convinced Callum is still alive. And when Roy gets a speeding ticket, Alex is forced to admit he’s been joy-riding in the café boss’ ancient car. Nail-biting stuff.

Celebrity Masterchef

Celebrity Masterchef

Celebrity MasterChef (BBC1, 8pm) First of a 12 part series as gastro-duo John Torode and Gregg Wallace proudly present a sensational A-list line up. Donna Air, Marcus Butler, Tommy Cannon, Alexis Conran and – of course – Sinitta. Wow. Will it be any different to everything we’ve seen before a million times? No.

Peter Crouch

Euro 2016 – England v Slovakia (ITV, 7.15pm) Although with four points in the bag England are already through, they need to win this one. If they don’t they’ll probably end up with a daunting quarter-final clash against France in Paris. How do you rate the Three Lions squad so far? What do you think of the TV coverage? Tonight’s ITV dream team is Clive Tyldesley, Glenn Hoddle, Ian Wright, Peter Crouch and Lee Dixon. Woohoo. Join our punditwatch.

Max Branning and Ian Beale

Two years and two months after Lucy Beale’s body was found on never-before-mentioned Walford Common the longest running storyline in TV history finally reached its eagerly awaited conclusion.

Obviously, millions of fed-up viewers lost interest ages ago. Not so the weird space aliens on Planet EastEnders, whose continued excitement over this ludicrously drawn out saga was comparable to a daft dog obsessively playing with a tedious toy for hours on end. Monotonous, baffling but quite funny.

Big Brother: So long Marco, not missing you already

Marco is evicted from Big Brother

“I can’t believe it,” said Marco Pierre White Jnr after fed-up viewers voted him into oblivion at the earliest possible opportunity.

But what couldn’t he believe? That he was the dreaded first out? Or that everyone else doesn’t love him as much as he does? You decide.

For a nanosecond I actually felt sorry for him. He’d put his heart and soul into making his mark and been roundly rejected. The poor guy was crestfallen. He was even less popular than world class dullard Andy, joy killer Emma and dreadful Georgina. No mean feat.

Eurotrash

Over to Channel 4’s born again Eurotrash. Emphasis on the “trash”.

I wanted to love this eagerly-awaited revival of the old comedy classic, but in the end I am not sure if I even liked it. Maybe it’s because Europe isn’t funny anymore. Whatever the reason in an hour of dated attempts to shock and amuse I think I might have chuckled briefly once.
